A VILLAGE show brought the local community together last weekend to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

On Saturday, September 3, Rainford Show held its 40th anniversary event after a three-year delay due to the pandemic.

Starting in 1981, the popular annual show gives people the opportunity to showcase their talents by putting their own designs or creations on display.

From flowers and fruit and veg to photography and arts and crafts, hundreds of entries were put on display inside Rainford Village Hall.

With the help of the Rainford Show committee, Rainford Horticultural Society and external members, these entries were judged and winner's given medals for those with the most points.

With around 350 entries and 140 photographs, committee member Melanie Lee said the show was a "great success" after three years away.

Melanie said: "We were slightly apprehensive after the three year delay but decided to go ahead with it and it was a great success.

"There were hundreds of entries and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

"It really brings the community together and it's great to encourage young people to get involved with their arts and crafts."
