THE Liverpool County FA says it has been made aware of an alleged incide t at Ruskin sportsground in which an adult was reportedly assaulted during a junior football match.

Police attended the site in Dentons Green after an altercation between two men on Sunday morning, September 4, shortly before 10am.

Shocked parents reported seeing three police cars and police van arrive at the ground before officers headed to an artificial football pitch where the incident took place.

It is alleged a 39-year-old man was assaulted and suffered bruising and swelling to his face.

It is understood the violence broke out during a junior football game.

Officers have spoken to a 40-year-old man over the incident and inquiries are ongoing.

A Liverpool County FA spokesman said: "We are aware there was an alleged incident at Ruskin Drive over the weekend and it was reported to the police.

"We are awaiting further information and (it) will be dealt with in due course from an FA point of view.

"Until the matter has been dealt with by the police we are not in a position to release any further detail."

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We were contacted at 9.55am yesterday, Sunday, September 4, following reports on an altercation between two males at Ruskin Leisure on Ruskin Drive.

"A 39-year-old man is reported to have been assaulted by a second man who then left the area prior to police arriving. The injured man suffered bruising and swelling to the face.

"A 40-year-old man has since been spoken to by officers and enquiries are continuing.
