A VACANT pub in Middlewich is set to become a Miller & Carter restaurant next year.
The Harvester Salt Cellar in Holmes Chapel Road is currently lying vacant – with rubbish strewn across the car park and the building looking unkempt.
Miller & Carter has now confirmed it will be adding the site to its chain of steakhouse restaurants in April next year.
A spokesperson said: “From time to time we review our estate and take the decision to convert a business to another of our successful brands.
“We’re delighted to share that we will be converting Harvester Salt Cellar to a brand-new Miller & Carter in April 2023.
“Harvester fans will be able to find their next nearest restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent.”
The confirmation comes after Mitchells & Butlers – which owns Miller & Carter – submitted plans to Cheshire East Council for signage outside Harvester Salt Cellar.
The application includes a double-sided entrance sign, a post-mounted advertisement sign, and two sets of illuminated letters mounted on the sides of the restaurant.
The application also includes a ‘welcome’ sign and a sign directing customers to the car park.
The planning reference is 22/3011C.
Carol Bulman, a Cheshire East councillor for Middlewich, welcomed the news.
She said: “I think a new restaurant would be a welcome addition the area.
“It looks derelict at the moment.”
The site is currently overgrown with weeds.
There is also rubbish – including dirty nappies – in the car park.
Salt Cellar originally reopened as a refurbished Harvester restaurant in May, 2016.
