RESIDENTS came together to remember lost loved ones and celebrate Willowbrook Hospice's 25th anniversary last weekend.

On Saturday, September 3, Willowbrook hosted their Moonlight Memory Walk at Ruskin sports ground, taking place for the first time since 2019.

More than 250 people came to the event, which is organised to remember the lives of those who had been cared for by Willowbrook towards the end of their life.

Many who took part in the event have had first-hand experience with the end-of-life hospice.

To celebrate Willowbrook's 25 years of serving the community, the walk was also designed with a 90s theme.

DJs provided the backdrop for the event with classic 90s tunes as walkers trotted along in colourful fancy dress and nostalgic outfits - while not forgetting the 90s essential glow sticks, slap bands, and glitter.

During the event, there was a special song for people to have a moment of reflection while The Wicket provided fast food and 90s themed drinks.

Alun Owen, Corporate Director at Willowbrook said: “The hospice was really pleased to be able to bring back our first Moonlight Walk since 2019.

"We weren’t sure if our supporters would still be out there after all this time but of course, our community rose to our invitation and had a great time. It was a fantastic atmosphere and from all the smiling faces that I could see, everyone enjoyed themselves.

“With everything that is currently going on, it's so gratifying that over 250 of our supporters joined us in walking the Moonlight Walk route to commemorate people close to them that they have lost over the years.

“We look forward to welcoming them back in 2023 for the next one.

“Thanks must also go to our all our sponsors, especially to Steve Caunce drainage for their support. The money raised will be put straight into the running of Willowbrook to support those who need help at the most challenging point in their lives.”
