SAINTS' Jack Welsby is on the three-man shortlist for the prestigious Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year award after another outstanding season flitting between full back and stand off.

The other nominees, as selected by the England Performance Unit, are Leeds' Morgan Gannon and Hull KR's Mikey Lewis.

Welsby is one of only a few players to be nominated for a second year and is the reigning Young Player of the Year.

With scrum half Lewis Dodd out for the season since Easter and Will Hopoate in and out of the team with injury, much has fallen on Welsby's shoulders.

But he has made a huge contribution to the League Leaders' success, showing his versatility in playing both in the halves and full back.

His selection for the England squad in 2022 is further recognition of his progress and success following on from 2021.

Rhinos' Gannon cemented his place within the Leeds team despite only being 18 and is made more remarkable that he plays in the forwards.

His contribution to the Rhinos has seen him become a consistent performer for them in 2022. For a second year running, Morgan has been selected for the England Knights squad in 2022.

A mid-season injury interrupted Lewis' promising season in 2022, which has seen him progress on from last year and further contribute with some individual inspirational tries, which aided Rovers success in the early part of the season.

For a second year, Lewis has been selected for the England Knights squad in 2022.

The Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year will be presented on the awards evening including Top Try Scorer, Top Tackler, Loch Lomond Spirit of Super League, Betfred Coach of the Year and the prestigious Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel.
