TWO PEOPLE have been charged after a statue was "stolen" in Prescot last month.
On Friday, August 26, it was reported that a statue was taken from the wall outside the Shakespeare North Playhouse at around 6.30pm.
An investigation was opened by Merseyside Police and a man and a woman have now been charged.
Steven Larkin and Catherine Taylor, aged 45 and 48 of Chapel Road, Anfield and Primrose Drive, Huyton have been charged with theft.
They appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, September 5) and have been remanded into custody.
The reported theft came just a few weeks after the Shakespeare North Playhouse was opened in July.
The £38m theatre was built during the pandemic through public funds and donations, and aims to bring a thriving arts scene into Prescot.
Boasting a 17th-century style 'cockpit' theatre, an inclusive education programme, exhibition gallery, Studio, café, and an outdoor performance garden, the venue is anticipated to attract more than 140,000 visitors a year to the region.
