A LOCAL miner's group is showcasing their new Clock Face Colliery banner on a procession to Dream today.
On Sunday, September 11, members of the North-West Heritage Miners Association (NHMA) will walk from Abbots Hall Avenue in Clock Face to the Dream sculpture through the Sutton Manor woodland.
The procession is in honour of the mineworkers in the Clock Face Colliery, following a similar banner which has been created for the Sutton Manor branch of miners.
Walking around the old Clock Face and Sutton Manor coalfields, music from the Valley Brass Band will accompany the procession up to the Dream sculpture.
After they helped to sew and design the large-scale Clock Face banner, members of St Michael's Craft Club will also be present at the procession, which will finish with the Brass Band playing to crowds at Dream and kids activities also on offer.
Jim Housley, an ex-coal miner and organiser at the NWMA, said: "Quite a lot of work has gone into creating this banner and organising the event.
"We have been working alongside St Michael's Craft Club to design the banner and organise children's activities such as arts, crafts, sewing, and dance classes."
"Everything we do goes back into the community so it will be good to see everyone come together and celebrate our history and the Clock Face Colliery."
