TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a woman murdered in a flat in Haydock.

The woman has been named on social media, but formal identification from Merseyside Police has yet to be issued.

Police were contacted at 9.05am on Wednesday following concern for the safety of a woman at a property in Piele Road.

Paramedics attended and found the woman, in her 40s, inside the property.

She was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. A post-mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

A man in his 30s was also found close to the scene with injuries. He has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. He will continue to be questioned by police officers.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old St Helens man was arrested in the Liverpool area last night and taken into custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

Tributes on social media have named the victim, however, Merseyside Police are yet to  release details of her identity.
