A MAN who defied the odds after being told as a teenager he would never walk again has fulfilled a dream to open a restaurant with his dad.
Aaron Yates, and dad Jeff, have launched Yada Prescot bar and grill on Eccleston Street.
The venue held a special opening in August and is the result of a five-year long ambition to launch the premises.
“We have always loved our food and it’s been a dream of ours to have a hospitality venue,” said Aaron, 23.
“I really love it, makes me happy seeing customers. Our products are locally sourced.
“The opening was absolutely amazing, we couldn’t have asked for better, it’s unbelievable.”
Former Prescot School pupil Aaron was told at 16 that he would not be able to walk again after being diagnosed with Transverse myelitis.
However, Aaron, who lives in Whiston, defied the odds to get back on his feet and says this has given him a new perspective on life and motivated him to pursue his dreams.
“I was told I would never walk again, but thankfully I managed to,” said Aaron, who works as a lorry driver.
“That changed my whole outlook I said to myself I’ll work hard and do what I want to do.
“It is a nice feeling to get back on my feet and that was a major turning point. I was bouncing between St Helens Hospital, the Walton Centre and Whiston Hospital.
“But out of that it makes me appreciate being alive and makes me realise the little things in your life, just being able to walk, to smile and speak to people.”
Yada is a real family affair, with Aaron’s mum and cousins among the staff who work there.
The family even renovated the building themselves to get Yada ready for its long-awaited opening.
“We built it all ourselves, we had electrician and plumbers, but it was us as a family who got it to where it is today.”
