Your eight favourite places to enjoy a dessert in St Helens

Whether its cakes, biscuits, treats or more, we all know we sometimes need the right kind of sweet pick me up from time to time so with that in mind we asked where the best places are in St Helens.

Since we launched our Best of 2022 competition in April, we’ve found the best places that St Helens has to offer in 16 different categories.

We’ve celebrated St Helens’ best hair, nails and beauty providers as well as the best pub and beer garden, fitness instructor, independent shop and place for children with awards for pies, fish and chips, breakfast, afternoon tea, pizza, roast dinner, gym and burger also being handed out. Next up we wanted to find St Helens’ best dessert.

After reading all your nominations, we’ve shortlisted the top eight, who will battle it out to be named Best Dessert 2022.

Now we need your help to choose an overall winner from our shortlist. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of this week’s St Helens Star as the coupons inside count for five votes! There are three ways to vote:

1. Search for the Best Of post on our St Helens Star Facebook or Instagram pages and comment under the post with the name of your winner = 1 vote

2. Name your favourite in the comments section on this article via our website = 2 votes 3. Purchase a copy of this week’s St Helens Star (August 25 edition) and fill in the entry form = 5 votes

Customers already say this is the best dessert venue “without a doubt”.

- Antonia’s Cakes in Cowley Hill

The company’s bio says it serves ‘Award winning wedding cakes and luxury celebration cakes. Based in St Helens, covering the North West. Freshly baked brownies, cookies, cookie pies and cupcakes available in-store daily’

- The Sweet Retreat on Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath.

One nomination said this popular venue has “amazing deserts & amazing service” and clearly many others agree as it’s reached our top eight!

- Greedy Baby Cakes.

This popular venue is started by mum Emma Gerrard who decided to start the business after making delicious treats during night feeds with her baby.

- Kaspas St Helens.

This brand has venues all over the UK, but the store has made an impression on St Helens’ community as it’s in the running for the top spot.

- Pinkeez, Junction Lane Sutton Junction.

As well as being popular for their burgers, this venue got loads of votes to bein the roundup for their waffle desserts, which include ingredients like Ferrero Rocher, Flake, Strawberries.

- Blackburns on Cambridge Road.

The queue is out the door most lunch times and according to voters its not just down to their tasty steak pies. Their desserts, cakes and tarts are “the best around” according to one voter.

- Loulas in Newton-le-Willows.

One review says: “Recieved a lovely box of shortbread biscuits my friend had bought from loulas they looked too pretty to eat but I have no willpower! Well, they were the best biscuits I have ever tasted! I'll be purchasing from loulas in the future”
