FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze which engulfed a house during the night. 

Crews attended Grizedale Avenue, Clinkham Wood, on Tuesday night, August 23, where a semi-detached house was "well alight".

Firefighters were called shortly after 10.15pm and four engines and an aerial appliance attended the scene at the height of the blaze. 

It is understood a neighbouring property has also sustained damage from the fire.

A Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews were alerted at 10.16pm and on scene at 10.26pm.

"At the height of the incident four fire engines and the aerial appliance were at scene.

"This was a two-storey semi-detached house well alight, crews quickly sectorised the incident and committed six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze with three hose reel jets.

"The fire was extinguished soon after with the dwelling and neighbouring properties either side being checked for fire spread."

He added: "Two occupants were handed into the care of North West Ambulance Service.

"Our crews left the scene at 1.29am."

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman said they attended a property at the location and transported patients to hospital.

She was unable to give any details of injuries or how many patients were taken.
