SAINTS could still finish anywhere from midway to lower end in the statistical rankings of their League Leaders' Shield wins – if they do in deed go on to take the crown this season.
Kristian Woolf's men need one point from their remaining three games to lift the table-toppers' prize for a record-extending eighth time.
This means a draw or win on Friday at Wigan Warriors, the only other side who could win the prize this year, would complete the job and secure them top spot at season's end for the first time since 2019 and provide a valuable boost heading into the play-offs.
If Saints win their remaining three league games, they will end the year with a record of 23 victories from 27 matches played – giving a win percentage of 85.185.
That could drop to as low as 74.07 percent if they fail to win another game before the play-offs kick in.
Statistically speaking, Saints' best campaign since the introduction of the League Leaders' Shield in 2003 was 2019 when they achieved 26 triumphs out of 29 appearances, a win percentage of 89.65.
The higher the number, the more dominant Saints were in the season.
Their least dominant seasons in which they won the League Leaders' Shield were 2007 and 2014 when they bagged 19 W's from 27 matches.
Here is the rankings for win percentage in Saints' seven League Leaders' Shield victory campaigns:
1 - 26/29 = 89.65 %, year 2019
2 - 26/30 = 86.66 %, year 2018
3 - 24/28 = 85.71 %, year 2006
4 - 23/28 = 82.14 %, year 2005
5 - 21/27 = 77.77 %, year 2008
6= 19/27 = 70.37 %, years 2007/2014
How the final three rounds of 2022 could impact on the rankings if Saints do go on to win the League Leaders' Shield:
If Saints win all 3 games to take them to 23/27, their percentage would be 85.185 and place them 4th
If Saints win 2 games for 22/27, their percentage would be 81.48 and place them 5th
If Saints win 1 game for 21/27, their percentage would be 77.77 and place them 6th
If Saints win no more games and stay on 20/27, their percentage would be 74.07 and place them 7th on the rankings if they still win the League Leaders' Shield
