A LOCAL gym is organising an all day fitness session to help prevent suicide in young people.
Xercise4Less, based on Boundary Road in West Park, is hosting the event on Tuesday, August 23 as part of a nationwide initiative to support Papyrus.
With suicide the biggest killer in young people under 35, Papyrus has been set up to offer a support network to those suffering from mental health problems and suicidal thoughts.
This support also extends to the families of young people experiencing difficulties and those coping with the loss of a loved one to suicide.
To raise funds and awareness for Papyrus, Xercise4Less is hosting a 16-hour charity challenge that includes a pentathlon of exercises, Yoga and pilates activities, spin sessions and Olympic weightlifting.
The event will also involve free personal training sessions and a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses.
Caroline Chambers, general manager at Exercise4Less St Helens, said she is proud to be a part of an event raising money for such a vital charity.
She said: "I think mental health is at the forefront of a lot of people's minds at the moment so the event is for all the struggling young people and the families of those lost to suicide.
"The charity is something close to my heart as I have family members who have used their services and I think they are amazing.
"They form a support network around young people and their families, so it will be a great way to bring people together and raise awareness of what they do."
Open to members and non-members of the gym, Xersize4Less is asking people for donations of Papyrus from those taking part in the event.
Raffle tickets cost £1 and winners of the challenges will be announced throughout the day.
