JACK Welsby certainly enjoyed the first-half try he scored against Hull KR upon his return to the Saints line-up.

The stand-off, who switched to full-back in the second half, missed the previous week's 60-6 win at Hull FC while he rested a few niggles.

But he hit the ground running against the Robins at the Totally Wicked Stadium last night, throwing a wicked long pass to help creat the opening try for Tommy Makinson in the eighth minute.

Then later in the half he showed that whatever he could do on the right edge he could also execute on the left as another long ball sent Jon Bennison flying down his left wing.

Welsby followed him in support and as Bennison approached former Saints full-back Lachlan Coote coming across to cover he fed his teammate on the inside so that he could race to the sticks, holding off the chasing Mikey Lewis in the process.

After regaining his feet, Welsby threw the ball to the back of the stand behind the posts where all the fans started chanting the 'Super Jack' song.

With Tommy Makinson adding the conversion and his second penalty of the game a few minutes later it sent Saints back into the changing rooms 20-0 in front and in full control at half-time.
