PLANS for work to a number of trees covered by a preservation order have been submitted – including one which is at ‘high risk’ of falling onto the road.

An application for the trees at Alexandra Care Home in Newton-le-Willows, on Wargrave Road, has been put forward.

It is currently listed as ‘awaiting decision’.

The application relates to an Elm, three Ash, an Oak and two Sycamore trees.

A description of the works document has been submitted alongside the application.

It features an image of the Elm, labelled as T1, which is ‘young in age’ and located ‘next to the busy main road’.

The document says: “This tree is completely dead and is of high risk of falling into the public footpath or road.

“We are proposing that this tree is felled to mitigate any risk of the tree falling on pedestrians or vehicles passing by.”

“Adjacent to T1 there is a small group of Ash trees which look to be in good health, however, they are overgrown and growing increasingly close to the property.

“We are proposing that this group is laterally drawn back away from the property by 1-2m to give the necessary clearance.

“As you enter the properties driveway, on the left-hand side there are a group of Sycamores and one Oak.

“The Oak is closest to the care home and now has branches growing onto the property.

“This tree requires a lateral drawback of the side closest to the property by 1-2 meters to prevent the tree damaging the gutters.”
