SATURDAY 27 August, one week before the start of the Rugby Union season, sees a Memorial Match at Moss Lane (3pm) for Mike Slemen, Liverpool St Helens’ most capped international player.
The game, featuring a number of ex internationals is between an LSH Veterans Team and a Wooden Spoon Select XV, a national Charity raising money to help Children facing a life of disadvantage or disability.
All the money raised by the Merseyside Branch of the Wooden Spoon Society goes back into projects local to our region.
Mike became a former President of the Society when his career, which include 32 International caps and a 1980 Grand Slam winner’s medal, ended in 1986, at the time of the merger between the Liverpool and St Helens clubs.
He then became the Head Coach of the newly formed LSH Club for the next three years.
