DOUGHNUT lovers queued from 8am ahead of Planet Doughnut opening its doors on the Linkway retail park.
This is the ninth store by the Shropshire based brand, which also has venues in Cheshire and Warrington.
It's moved into part of the former Frankie and Benny's store, which now houses Planet Doughnut and German Doner Kebab.
The branch is the third in the North West, following on from the success of stores in Cheshire and Warrington.
Duncan McGregor, the owner said: "The property came up and it was just an ideal location for us to push into Merseyside after doing well elsewhere as we want to get our brand known.
"We've actually increased our range now and we have doughnuts, milkshakes, sundaes, fresh coffee, waffles and cookie dough as well."
Vicky Byrne said: "We are very excited to serve the people of St Helens and show them what real doughnuts are like.
"Once they try them they will realise why they are so popular."
Some people have been queuing since 8am outside the store, despite the heat today.
First in the queue was Karen Scott with 10-year-old daughter Scarlett.
She said: "I've been here for a while because I've got a doughnut loving daughter who drags me to doughnut shops across the country - even on the day we are set to go on holiday."
