The car, a white Mercedes Benz A-Class, is suspected to have been stolen before it was set alight and abandoned.
While nobody was injured, detectives are now appealing for information following the suspected arson attack.
Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: "Although nobody was injured, to set a vehicle alight close to residents is reckless in the extreme, and thankfully nobody was hurt or houses damaged."
Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact police via @MerPolCC, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, with reference 85.
