A MAN has died after a car struck a tree in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to Scafell Road, Moss Bank at about 2am to reports of a collision involving a Renault Megane and a tree.
The man, who has now been named as Jordan Yates, 24, from St Helens, died a short time later.
In a statement, police said his next of kin have been informed and enquiries remain ongoing at the scene.
Scafell Road remains closed between Moss Bank Road, Moss Bank and Washway Lane, Haresfinch.
The incident happened on the road heading towards the Moss Bank Hotel, adjacent to the farmer's field.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area while police continue their enquiries.

In a statement, Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of the man who sadly lost his life this morning.
"They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers while the investigation commences.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or properties in the area that may have CCTV or doorbell footage to please contact us.”
