RAINFORD High students made a huge donation to local foodbanks during their last term before the summer break.
As part of a 'Foodbank Fridays' initiative, the students were encouraged to think of those struggling with the cost of living crisis and in need of extra support in the community.
On each Friday throughout their last term, they were asked to bring in donations such as food items and toiletries for local food banks and charities.
The initiative became a quick success and by the last week of term, the students had amassed two full vans worth of donations.
These donations were split between the St Helens and Skelmersdale food banks.
The donated toiletries and food will assist those in the community who may be struggling financially to support themselves and their families in difficult times, especially over a long summer break.
Students at Rainford High are often encouraged to partake in fundraising activities to help the community and those less fortunate than themselves.
Alex Marsh, Director of Business and Finance at Rainford High, started the initiative and asked the students to bring in donations each week.
Ms Marsh said: “Foodbank Fridays has been a huge success and it has been great to see all of the students actively getting involved and showing their support for local charities.
"There were many boxes and bags that were filled to the brim with items that will massively benefit those visiting the St Helens and Skelmersdale food banks.
"Finding out that we had donated enough to fill two whole vans was a lovely way to end the term.
"I am very proud of our students and their continuous display of the ‘Everyone Matters’ ethos that is so important to us here at Rainford High.”
