LADIES put their best foot forward on Saturday when thousands attended Ladies Day at Haydock Park Racecourse.
Most eyes may have been on the racetrack at Haydock Park on Saturday, August 6, but there was plenty of action off it too, with the hotly-contested Style Awards.
Backed by fashion brand House of Cavani, the awards offer some fantastic prizes for the top three picked out by the judges and this year’s competition attracted many entries.
There was little to split the three finalists, but Glory Oduolisaeme from Cheshire was eventually crowned the winner, dazzling the judges with a striking yellow outfit from Nigeria – paired with a hat from M&S and a white Jacquemus bag.
The 41-year-old was enjoying her first ever trip to the races with husband Walter and she took home a host of prizes, which included a year’s worth of clothing from Forever Unique worth £1,000 as well as £500 in cash.
She said: “This outfit was made for me from Nigeria actually. This is my first ever trip to the races - my husband mentioned a few weeks ago that we were coming so I was looking for what to wear and the minute I saw this I knew I’d have a chance.
"To be honest though, when they called me up I was so shocked that I didn’t want to come, I thought they were joking.
“When they announced me, I was just shaking. I don’t think I’ve ever won anything before! I made the effort and it paid off.”
It was a busy weekend at Haydock Park, which hosted a three-day festival of racing that included live music from chart toppers Rudimental on Friday night.
Dickon White, Regional Director of the Jockey Club North West, added: “We were thrilled to see so many ladies throw their hats into the ring this year and Glory was a well-deserved winner.
“It was fantastic to see so many new faces at Haydock this weekend and it just goes to show that you don’t have to be a racing expert to strike gold on the track!
“Hopefully those people who joined us for the first time at the weekend liked what they saw and will be back again soon.”
