A GROUP of dancers are celebrating their “incredible” achievement after triumphing at the World Cup.

Eleven girls from KL Dance, based in Clinkham Wood, all aged between eight and 13, set out to San Sebastien in Spain to represent England in the Dance World Cup.

They had beaten off competition from hundreds of entries to be able to compete at the prestigious event.

Dance World Cup sees more than 120,000 hopefuls from around the world aged from four to 25 trying to qualify in their country for the DWC World Finals, which are held annually.

KL Dance had four girls performing solos, a duet, a trio and group dances, with one of the group dances named World Champions and the other group's placing top five in the world. This also contributed to helping Team England win the overall World Cup.

It signified a massive achievement for the dance school, run by 33-year-old Kelly Floyd, who lives in Eccleston.

The dance school is in its 11th year, and has doubled in size over the past year, since moving from its previous premises in Rainford, with more than 100 students.

The school’s success story has reached another level after the incredible achievement at the World Finals, which saw the team overcome difficulties of cancelled flights and disruptions as they set out for Spain.

The girls who competed in San Sebastien were Anabelle Holland; Maddie Hughes; Chloe Torpey; Macy Horton; Mia Baxter; Lili Grogan; Elise Baxter; Sophie Martindale; Ruby Jackson; Lyla Walkley and Megan Newton.

“To get the chance to represent England was already a massive achievement,” said Kelly, who has also worked as a choreographer.

“We went to Spain not quite expecting the outcome we had but the girls really worked hard in the build up, and thoroughly deserved their success, i’m just so proud of the team.

“This has been our best year yet, with our successes, new premises and our schools growth”

She added: “One of the highlights at the World Cup was the opening parade, joining the dancers from the other 62 countries! The people in San Sebastien lined the streets and watched us walk waving our country flags, it was just incredible.”

Adding her congratulations, Moss Bank ward councillor Trisha Long said: “I've seen the girls dance myself both at their studio above the shops at Dalehead Place, and at Park Farm's Jubilee Picnic in the Park in the Ward - which I invited them to perform at.

“They are completely amazing - as is their dedication, hard work and team ethos.”
