SUTTON Academy Year Nine student Lewis Shaw was victorious in the English Schools Athletics Championships held at Sportcity Manchester over the weekend.
The Warrington Athletic Club member was competing for Merseyside in the Junior Age Group.
Running in the Junior Boys 80 metres hurdles on Saturday and ranked number 1 in the UK, Shaw qualified for the final with a comfortable win in his heat in 11.23 seconds.
In Sunday’s final he again demonstrated why he is ranked number one in the UK and was never headed as he sped to glory in a time of 11.24 seconds into a strong wind.
This result was made even better because in warming up for his heat Shaw tweaked a hamstring and this had to be managed throughout the championship.
Shaw runs at Warrington under the guidance of coach Neal Petley.
He qualified to run at the English Schools Championships after winning the Merseyside Schools title in a new Championship Record time of 11.39 for the Junior Boys 80m Hurdles.
