A DEFIBRILLATOR has had parts of its equipment "stolen" in Bold.

The defibrillator was found with missing pads during checks from local councillors this morning (Monday, July 11), making the life-saving equipment unusable.

Several defibrillators are placed around the area, with Parish Councillors conducting a weekly check to each box.

Colette Smith, Parish Councillor for Bold Parish Council, said: "This morning, one of our councillors was doing the rounds and Bold was the first one on the list.

"When he went to check for the defibrillator, the cabinet was locked. He opened the defibrillator and the pads had been removed.

"Someone has obtained the universal code to deliberately enter the box and remove the pads."

The heart restarter, provided by Merseyside Ambulance, is worth between £150 - £200, with the Parish Council now having to use their funding to replace the equipment.

It is unknown what day the incident occurred, however, it will have happened within the last seven days since its previous check.

Cllr Smith added: "I think our biggest concern is if someone had needed that defibrillator over the course of the past week, there's every likelihood that there could've potentially been a life lost because those pads weren't where they should be.

"I can't comprehend it. The other councillors and myself are absolutely flummoxed.

"Their mindless action has potentially taken that ability to save a life from someone.

"I hope that whoever has done this never has the need to use the defibrillator."
