A NEW food and drink quarter that is set to breathe new life in St Helens town centre is targeting an opening date in August, its owner has revealed.
And the new Imperial Food and Drink quarter is also seeking street food vendors, musicians and artisan businesses to play their part at the venue.
The Brook Street attraction, which is being launched by entrepreneur Ian Pitts, is aiming for an opening date of August.
The business said that "after an incredible amount of spanners thrown in the works causing time delays" - which includes Covid and building material delays - it is "now almost ready to open and make this dream a reality".
In a statement, they told potential customers: "We thank you so much for the ongoing support and patience."
Independent food zone
Mr Pitts aim is to create an independent food zone around the new site, including adjacent properties at the Secret Garden, the Imperial and the Church.
It is understood the aim is to create a city centre style feel, with venues similar to those found in Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter.
Mr Pitts has a vision to grow the area even further and has already set out plans to convert the former Gibson sports store.
Pizza restaurant Cork & Dough, which shut due to the pandemic will also reopen.
The business's statement added: "To give you more of an understanding of our vision, we have a bigger aim for this than just another business…our aim is to create an independent food AREA for St Helens that we can keep developing on and growing as we go.
"An aim to rebuild this industry after a true hospitality crisis and help independent business thrive again.
"This may take time but we will make this happen with your support.
"The area (Imperial Food & Drink Quarter) currently holds 250 people seated, spread over a ground floor front and back, an upper floor with an outdoor balcony overlooking the lower floor and surroundings.
"The new food and drinks quarter is an exciting addition to the already booming Imperial Buildings in St Helens town centre - situated directly opposite - which has been open and expanding for almost 15 years ….this now includes a nightclub, two independent bars showcasing local live music talent, a coffee shop and an already established Neapolitan wood-fired pizza restaurant (opening again soon!)."
The venue already has a number of street food vendors signed up but has a few spots available and is looking for a few others.
Wanted - street food vendors, musicians and artisan businesses
Bosses are also seeking pop up street food vans to get in touch.
The statement added: "We aim to hold regular music festivals and artisan events so any musicians or local artisan business we welcome to get in touch too!
"It has been a long time coming but believe us when we say there is so much going on in the background to get this launched ASAP!
"Bring on summer!
"P.s there are some more exciting developments happening in the near future…stay tuned."
With a new pop up food, drink and retail space also due to be set up on the former Chalon Way car park, a much-changed social scene in the town centre is expected to shape up.
