Lester Piggott, who won his first and last rides at Haydock Park, has died aged 86.
One of the greatest jockeys of all time, Lester rode The Chase to victory at the Lancashire track back in 1948 when aged just 12.
Nicknamed 'The Long Fellow’ because he was unusually tall for a jockey at 5ft 7ins, his final win came in 1994 aboard Palacegate Jack when Lester was a few weeks shy of his 59th birthday.
Piggott was champion jockey 11 times and won the English Derby nine times, including on the legendary Nijinsky in 1970.
