A SUPER slimmer is hoping to inspire others to feel better about their bodies on the back of her own weight loss success.
Sue Astley is set to launch her own Slimming World Group in her home village of Burtonwood this Monday, May 16.
The 53-year-old is leaving her 20-year career as a headteacher at schools in Wigan and Tydesley, working with young people with challenging behaviours, to become a slimming consultant after herself losing more than two stone in eight months.
She hopes to continue with her passion around helping families and young people to look after their health, as well as continue along her own weight loss journey.
“Before Slimming World, I felt unhealthy and all my clothes felt uncomfortable. This made me feel ugly and not the best version of me,” said Sue, who now lives in Lowton.
“I had become lazy, was not exercising enough and my confidence was low, so I am so glad my friend persuaded me to give Slimming World a try.
“I lost three pounds in my first week, which motivated me to keep going, and I love that I am eating plenty of fruit and veg, which makes me feel healthy again.
“I make spicy veg soup every Saturday and use this for lunch throughout the week, and when I shop, I am constantly thinking about optimizing and making better choices.”
Sue, who has two dogs and grown-up children says she loves everything about Slimming World and the journey she has been on since she started.
She wants to shout her journey from the rooftops as it has had such an impact on her life, and this is one of the reasons she wanted to launch the Burtonwood group.
“I was apprehensive when I first walked into my first group meeting, but I soon started to relax,” she added.
“I love that you get to know each member’s story. It is like a therapy session, and the sessions are funny, with support from other group members being key.
“It has made me more determined to continue with my healthier lifestyle, and I may even change my target.
“I choose to do more exercise by mainly walking my dogs more, as I enjoy this more than before, and I am always thinking about getting more steps in.
“I cannot tell you how excited I am to help others lose weight and feel great about themselves.
“I was born in Burtonwood and moved to Wigan when I was five, so this feels like I am returning home, and that it was meant to be.”
The first Burtonwood Slimming World group meeting will be held on Monday at St Michael’s Parish Hall on Chapel Lane at 5.30pm.
