THREE boys have been arrested after a secondary school was broken into and a fire started in its hall.

Fire crews attended Cowley International College on Hard Lane at around 1.40am of Easter Monday, April 18.

The blaze had already been extinguished by the time fire crews arrived, who handed the investigation over to police.

Merseyside Police confirmed they are investigating the break-in and fire at the school.

Officers have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident.


A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, arson, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a controlled drug (cannabis).

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, arson and possession of an offensive weapon.

Also, a 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of burglary, arson and possession of an offensive weapon.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "All three have been bailed pending further inquiries. An investigation is ongoing.

A spokeswoman for Cowley said that the students' return to school on Tuesday after the Easter holiday was not disrupted by the incident and that "students’ learning continues without interruption."
