ST HELENS Council has issued another warning over scammers making fraudulent phone calls to residents asking them to give their bank details to receive their tax rebate.
Households living in a property valued in council tax bands A to D as their main home are eligible for a £150 council tax rebate, as announced by the government in February, in a bid to help offset the cost of living crisis.
However, fraudsters have been contacting people in St Helens by phone asking them to provide their bank details to claim the sum.
The council issued a warning earlier this month over the scam. The local authority has released another warning, stressing that it would never contact people for bank details by phone, text or email.

A statement from the council said: "It has come to our attention that fraudsters are telephoning residents and asking them to provide their bank details in order to claim the £150 Council Tax energy rebate.
"We urge you not to give your bank details to anyone claiming to be from the council.
"If someone contacts you saying they're from the council and asks you provide your bank details, put the phone down immediately - it's a scam. We will never contact you to ask for your bank details by phone, text or e-mail.
