A TOWN centre pub is searching for a new licensee to take it over and give it a new lease of life.

The Wheatsheaf, on Westfield Street, is looking for someone to take the reins.

According to the pub's Facebook page, the venue had shut its doors in late February due to difficult trading conditions following the pandemic.

The hunt is now on for a licensee to take on the Wheatsheaf.

An advert for the vacancy has been posted on findmypub.com.

This says the pub has an ingoing cost of £5,000 and an annual rent cost of £32,000.

A description of the pub on the site reads: "The Wheatsheaf is a free of tie property located in St Helens town centre on the main late-night circuit just off the pedestrianised area of Ormskirk St and the popular Church Square Shopping Centre.  St Helens College is also nearby as is the Cineworld Multi-screen cinema and the Chalon Way Retail Park."

It adds: "St Helens is a large town situated approximately 10 miles east of Liverpool and 15 miles west of Manchester just off the M62 and the A580.  It also sits equidistant to the towns of Wigan and Warrington and is also close to the M6 and the M58.

"The Wheatsheaf is an end of terrace property and comprises one trading area with a servery to the right upon entering from the front with a rear external smoking/seating area to the rear.

"The private accommodation consists of two bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen.",
