A RANDOM act of kindness "really made a difference" to a 15-year-old who was struggling in a supermarket last month.

Using his debit card for the first time at Earlestown Tesco on Earle Street, Peter Twist became visibly anxious as his card would not work in the store.

Aware that Peter was struggling and becoming "a bit upset" at the till, Maureen Lawrenson, who was waiting behind him in the queue, stepped in and paid for his goods.

With Peter already having a stressful few weeks in the run-up to his GCSE's, Peter's mum Angela said that this gesture "really made a difference" to the 15-year-old's week.

Angela said: "Myself and Peter can't thank this lady enough. Even though it's not a big thing to many, it means more to us than she will ever know.

"She made Peter's bad week better just by that gesture. I will be forever grateful to her and for her kindness that day."

After finding Maureen to thank her for kindness, the grandmother said that it was a "pleasure" to help Peter in his time of need.

Maureen said: "I could see he was a bit upset that his card didn’t work, and he couldn’t remember the PIN number. I would like to think someone would help my grandson if he was in the same position."
