Motorists are being met with delays this morning after a traffic collision forced the closure of two lanes on a busy commuter run.
The incident is understood to have occurred between J24 (Ashton) and J23 (Haydock Island) on the M6 Southbound carriageway at around 6.45 am this morning.
The collision led to the closure of lanes 1 and 2, creating a tailback of almost three and a half miles.
Officers attended the scene, as well as a recovery vehicle, and the two lanes have now reopened.
The National Highways Agency Tweeted: "All lanes have now reopened on the #M6 southbound between J24 and J23 following an earlier collision.
"There are residual delays of 20 mins above normal travel time so please allow time for these delays to clear. Safe journey."
