A RETIRED Art and Design teacher from St Helens was recognised by a national photography institute in December - winning a Bronze Award in their national competition.
Barry Roberts, from Rainhill, won the award in the British Institute of Professional Photography's (BIPP) national print competition, which encourages professional and amateur photographers to send in their favourite shots.
Entering in the travel section, Barry's early morning shot of Derwentwater in the Lake District was shortlisted along with a handful of other finalists in BIPP's non-member category.
Competing with budding photographers across the country and judged by a panel of professionals, the 65-year-old was then informed he was the recipient of the Bronze Award.
Barry, who has taught at Sutton Academy and The Prescot School, said: "I thought that Derwentwater would be a great place to take a few shots while I was on holiday there, so I got up at 5am in order to take it.
"I've always had a passion for photography and I couldn't believe I had even made the shortlist of finalists for such a well respected institute and judged a panel of professionals.
"To win the Bronze Award is amazing, I'm really pleased."
