JACK'S Supermarket have continued their impressive charity work this year, delivering thousands of free meals to local charities and vulnerable families in St Helens and afar.

Jack's Supermarket, located at Four Acres Lane in Clock Face, support and organise numerous charitable schemes to the benefit of local communities, charities, organisations and independent businesses.

One of these projects, The Community Food Connection scheme, has seen the supermarket redistributing enough food to provide more than 37,652 meals to people needing a helping hand across the UK this year.

The scheme, managed by FareShare, links Jack’s with local charities and community groups in St Helens to redistribute surplus food that’s left over at the end of the day and ensure it’s not going to waste.

With many people struggling financially since the start of the pandemic, and the number of people using foodbanks increasing, these donations go a long way in making sure nobody goes hungry in our communities.

Another project the supermarket organises is the Jack's Supports initiative, which offers vital funding for local community groups and charities so they can continue providing their own services.

Since this scheme launched around three years ago, it has received 700 applications for funding of which 575 groups have been awarded a total of £218,900.

With a new round of applications every three months, the scheme will once again continue to support the community throughout 2022.

This Christmastime, the supermarket also delivered a batch of advent calendars to children in need, spreading festive joy and hoping to help every child have a happy Christmas.

Craig Robinson, store manager at Jack’s St Helens, said: “We have been working with FareShare for a couple of years now to reduce food waste and help those who might be struggling to make ends meet.

“Both of these initiatives have been particularly important over the last two years and we are delighted that they have been so successful.

"We hope to continue building on this in 2022 through our partnership with FareShare and continue to support our local community in St Helens through Jack’s Supports.”
