A PRIVATE glamping getaway complete with hot tubs, neon lights and floral walls is just a short drive away from St Helens.
The Instagram-able pods are set in the Secret Garden Glamping Site in nearby Skelmersdale and have been described as looking like something straight from the reality TV show Love Island.
The idea behind the five-star woodland site is from dad of two, Derry Green who originally began building the pods out of lockdown boredom for him and his children to enjoy.
Derry told the Star: “I had a European transport business and when lockdown hit it meant I was stuck at home.
“I get bored really easily, so I decided to start a project with my kids on the bit of land we had next to our house.”
What started as a home project, turned into a social media frenzy once Derry began sharing his progress pictures on Facebook.
“It was never supposed to turn into anything big it was just meant to be a space for us to chill out in as a family.
“But as the months went by, I just kept building and building because I love being outside and it just took a life of its own,” Derry said.
Derry’s pictures and videos he uploaded to social media began going viral with more than 10 million views and shares.
He said: “People started to contact me from all over the place asking if they could come and stay so I decided to list it on Air BnB and it instantly sold out two years in advance.”
Derry said the reaction he received to the glamping pods was “unbelievable”.
He said: “I couldn’t believe how many people were interested. It was mind boggling.
“If you had asked me two years ago, I’d never in a million years expected to have a glamping site, it wouldn’t have even crossed my mind!”
Priced at £165 a night, the pods offer a six-person wood burning hot tubs, outdoor smart tv, cooking and dining areas as well as high speed Wi-Fi.
If you fancy the chance of staying the night in a luxury pod, Secret Garden Glamping are hosting a Christmas raffle offering one lucky winner the chance to stay the night at the sold-out site.
