A DAD-OF-THREE was assaulted in front of his two-year-old daughter near the Rainford bypass in a shocking road rage attack.

Driver Jerome Pargetor says he slowed down behind a cyclist on the bypass, waiting for an opportunity to overtake, on the morning of Friday, October 1,

As he waited, a red car – described possibly as a Renault Clio – came up behind his Peugeot 5008.

It is alleged the driver beeped and "yelled expletives" out of his car.

As an opening arose for Jerome to overtake the cyclist, he alleges the red car immediately moved to overtake both of them before abruptly swerving in front of Jerome and slamming on his breaks.

Narrowly avoiding a crash, Jerome, 28, got out of his vehicle to check on the cyclist.

He claims the other driver then began shouting and swearing at him, accusing him of "cutting him off".

Before he had the chance to explain himself, Jerome, a full-time carer, was punched twice in the face.

Jerome, who told the Star that he has autism and can struggle with interacting people in stressful situations, explained his version of events.

He said: "Autism affects how I interact with people and I have sensory difficulties. I was panicking and shut down a little, but before I could get three words out I was punched twice in the face.

"He was a bit bigger than me and definitely older, but I managed to shove him off and push him back into his car."

Jerome explained that his daughter, who was in her car seat, was "very distressed" with all the noise and beeping.

Jerome, who was left with a bruised and swollen face, went to Skelmersdale walk-in centre and was told he may be suffering from concussion.

The incident has been reported to the police and the family are appealing for anyone with dash cam footage in the area to come forward with information.

Jerome said: "I still feel shaky talking about it. I just don't understand road rage, why put yourself and others at risk?"
