A GRANDMOTHER was “smiling so much” after being presented with a broach for her pen pal from staff at her local bank.
Edna Harrison, 85, has got to know the bank staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland in St Helens town centre over the years, as she always withdraws cash from behind the counter there.
In friendly conversation, Edna told the women at the branch how she had been struggling to find a particular brooch for her pen pal in Australia.
The women then took it upon themselves to source the broach online and delivered it to her house once it arrived.
John Harrison, Edna’s grandson, said this “unbelievable gesture” gesture left his nan in total shock, and so happy with the thought that had gone into it.
John said: “My gran was smiling so much and could not believe they had gone out of their way for her.
“She was so grateful and could not believe the gesture […] It has absolutely made her week.”
John described his grandmother as “the most thoughtful and caring person [who] goes out of her way for anybody and [always] puts everybody before herself.”
She thanked the women that dropped off the brooch and has since returned to the bank to drop off a gift.
Taking to social media to thank the bank staff for their gesture, John’s post was overwhelmed with positive messages from people praising the women.
One person commented: “So generous of them lovely ladies to do such a lovely thing.”
While another wrote: “[The women are] such genuinely kind and thoughtful [people].
The post also caught the attention of Nicola Parr, one of the staff members who delivered the broach.
Responding to John’s post, Nicola said: “I wanted to say ‘Thank You’ for taking the time to do this. Your gran is an absolute delight and I just wanted to help her find what she was looking for.
“I spoke to her again today and she is so happy. Her smiley face when she saw the broach will stay with me forever.
“Thanks again from all of us at the RBS St Helens branch.”
