A TABLE tennis club has submitted plans to create its own premises.

Rainford Table Tennis Club, which has been established for more than 12 years and has more than 60 members, is seeking to have its own base after using various halls across the village.

A planning application has been sent to the council to create the premises at Alpine House on Church Road, Rainford.

A design and access statement in the plans, drawn up by planning agents MB Building Solutions, states the application is "the culmination of 18 months of work by the club to find a home".

It adds the club has "secured financial help from a well-known successful local businessman Mr Andy J Bell, who is looking upon this application as a philanthropic project to put something back into the village of Rainford which gave him his education and start in life".

The application states the site is "unused and an underutilised asset in the heart of the village".

The plans is for "four tables" to be situated in the hall, with enough space to "enlarge the space of one table" to enable one doubles and three singles matches to be played, for maximum hall usage of 10 participants.

Meanwhile, a badminton court has also been include din the floor plan.

An external cycle rack is also applied for.

Plans also add Alpine House has 10 parking spaces but will lose five for access "to create access to the new parking area". Numbers one to six of the new spaces will be for Alpine House to make a total of 11, while the remaining 12 will be for the table tennis hall.

Plans add the proposals fits with "the sporting theme in the centre of the village".

The plans are on standard consultation to the public until Thursday, September 2 with a determination deadline of October 7 set.
