In a statement on Monday, Merseytravel said they embarked on the "legal process" to ensure the caravans are moved "as soon as possible".
The Merseytravel spokesman said: “Several members of the travelling community arrived at Newton-le-Willows station last Friday and are currently encamped on the car park.
“We are engaged in the legal process, and are liaising with our partners and local police, to ensure the caravans are moved from the car park as soon as possible. We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while this process takes place.”
Commuters this morning reported that the travellers had moved on from the car park, with one stating there had been "a bit of rubbish" left behind.
Merseytravel have since confirmed that the caravans had departed the station car park on Monday night.
