POLICE have donated more than 70 bags of compost which were seized after a cannabis farm was discovered to a community allotments which was hit by an arson attack.
Sexton Avenue Community Allotments in Parr were torched on the afternoon of April 29 this year.
The flames from the fire spread to 30ft tall trees nearby and were within metres of spreading to nearby homes
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.
Due to the blaze, the allotments lost numerous pieces of gardening equipment and tools.
Police officers in St Helens decided to help out the allotments by offering dozens of bags of compost to help them back on their feet.

In a post on the St Helens Police Facebook page, officers said: "Our Local Community and Targeted Policing teams today delivered 72 bags of compost seized from a cannabis grow within the town.
"The bags were delivered by our officers to the Sexton Avenue Community Allotments in Parr."
It added: "The allotments have recently suffered from a large fire back in April this year and lost numerous items of tools and gardening equipment.
"There are also lots of community groups who use the allotments who have been unable to of late.
"We're glad this compost will help to take some small steps toward getting the allotments back to normality."
