A CYCLIST in his 70s was taken to hospital after being hit by a car this morning (Thursday, August 12).
Police and ambulance were called to the scene in Rainford following the collision shortly before 9.30am.
Officers closed the Rainford bypass, near to the roundabout close to Holdi Indian restaurant while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A North West Ambulance spokesman said: "It was an RTC (road traffic collision) involving a car and cyclist.
"A 999 call was received at 9.29am.
"A man in his 70s, the cyclist, was taken to hospital with a hip injury."
The scene has since been cleared.
