ST CUTHBERT’S CATHOLIC HIGH
St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School said farewell to its Year 11 students before the half term break.
The day was filled with memories from over the last five years along with a special Mass led by the school’s Chair of Governors, Father Phil Swanson.
The school tried to keep as many of its leaving traditions as possible under the current circumstances, including its staff forming as a guard of honour and clapping the students out of the school. Click here to view the full video on their Facebook page.
Grant Mearns, Head of Year 11 said: “We felt this was a fitting way to thank them for their hard work and contribution to school life during their time with us.
“We would like to commend their maturity and resilience in dealing with changes over the last 18 months, and the ways in which they have supported their teachers and classmates throughout this ongoing challenging time.
“You are all a credit to our school and yourselves.”
Catherine Twist, Headteacher at St Cuthbert’s, said: “On behalf of all the staff and Governors at St Cuthbert’s, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Year 11 students, parents and carers for their support, in particular over the last year which has been difficult and challenging for us all.
“I look forward to hearing great things about our Year 11 students in the future, continuing to be part of our community and wish them all well.”
STEM Scholarships all round!
Since returning after the whit break, St Cuthbert’s has received the fantastic news that two students of the 2021 Year 11 cohort, Caitlyn Foster and India Richmond-Pinnington, have both been awarded the STEM scholarship at Cronton Sixth Form College starting in September.
Cronton College is fortunate to be able to offer scholarships in Science & Maths, Performing Arts and Sport, worth up to £2000 each.
These scholarships are designed to support students and provide financial assistance towards the costs of fulfilling their potential in their chosen field.
Caitlyn said: “I’m absolutely made up to have been accepted onto the STEM scholarship, I feel that it has made me more determined to do well for the future. My plan is to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths and then get into either Medical Research or Tropical Medicine.”
India said: “I feel like the scholarship will give me so many opportunities for the future. I’d like to thank Miss Maysmor, Head of Science at St Cuthbert’s and Mr Cardoo for all their work and support during my time at school. I really couldn’t have done it without them.”
