AS restrictions are easing and the weather is expected to be sunny and bright for most of this Bank Holiday weekend, we've put together a list of the top 5 things to do in St Helens this weekend.

1. Family fun at Knowsley Safari Park

The popular attraction is now open, offering not only the driving safari to see wild animals like Lions, rhinos and those pesky baboons, but also foot safari walk where you can see the Amur tigers and more.

In order to keep people safe in the current climate, the venue is accepting online bookings only and cannot take bookings of more than 6 visitors.

2. Chill out in one of St Helens many beer gardens

So lockdown has been rubbish. But one benefit of the lockdown is many venues used the forced closures to upgrade with many offering outdoor seating.

The Gerard has the largest beer garden in St Helens, while The Griffin in Eccleston has invested huge amounts of money to offer both sheltered and uncovered outdoor seating for every eventuality.

These venues will get full very quickly in the sunshine, so make sure to book ahead.

3. Fun in the sun at one of St Helens' green spaces.

From Sherdley Park to Taylor Parks and all the green spaces in between, we are so lucky in St Helens to have so many amazing parks on offer.

If the weather is on your side pack a few sandwiches and drinks and go to the park - ensuring social distancing - and enjoy a spot of sunbathing in the greenery.

4. Support independents and have a shop around the town

From the town centre to the outskirts, there are small businesses throughout our town which have inevitably suffered during the coronavirus pandemic.

Admittedly the weather hasn't been the most appealing to nip out in, but with sunnier days expected, it might just be time to venture out and support a business by having a day out shopping.

5. Watch a film at Cineworld

If basking in the sun isn't for you - or if the Great British weather once again does a u-turn and the weather ends up grim, it is the perfect opportunity to visit the newly reopened Cineworld.

Films showing include Cruella, Godzilla vs Kong, Peter Rabbit 2 and much more.
