RENOVATION works to restore a pub to "its former glory" are set to begin.

A refurbishment of the Pied Bull on High Street, Newton-le-Willows is to begin this month, say owners Punch Pubs.

An application was made to St Helens Council's Licensing department for a variation to the pub's licence ahead of the transformation.

Proposed opening hours for the pub are to be 9am to 1am from Mondays to Saturdays, and 9am to 12.30am on Sundays.

The makeover will include a transformation of the pub's inside areas including a "substantial dining area", meeting room and a new outside front seating area.

A description of the development on the Punch website reads: "We are investing in this pub to restore its former glory. The location of the Pied Bull in the charming village of Newton-le -Willows make this business a true jewel of the North.

"A complete makeover of the pub interior, creating a modern but timeless space for the heart of the community whilst retaining the Pied Bull’s distinctive charm, as well as a substantial dining area, and meeting room.

"We will also be adding to our outside trading area with an eye catching front seating area to complement our current secret garden. Let’s open an epic pub!"
