RESIDENTS have expressed anger over human waste and litter being dumped near to an industrial site in Haydock.

The Star has previously reported last November over issues of HGV drivers parking near residential homes close to the M6 Major development at Florida Farm and dumping waste.

Residents have reported further recent cases of waste being left in the area near to the industrial estate where an Amazon warehouse is located.

One, who asked not to be named, said to the Star: "This is having impact on residents who during these times are turning to their local area for fitness and leisure time

"But while out and about are enduring and witnessing awful disgusting scenes of litter and human waste from effects of the Florida Farm development.

"It's disappointing really, it is one thing after another.

"I go for a leisurely walk and there has been rubbish everywhere. The lorry drivers are just disposing of personal waste and it's really not nice to be seeing to be honest.

"It has been there for several weeks. I don't think the drivers have access to facilities given the current climate but it would be nice if they could pick it up and take it home or something, it takes corporate responsibility.

"It’s enough that you have to put up with an eyesore in the local area but also additional waste which is causing infestation of rats too."

They added: "I don't know which business they're coming from but I do know a lot of the lorries are making stops at Florida Farm making deliveries.

"Haydock is a small village and used to enjoy a lot of countryside, we have put up with development and the aftermath as well which comes with it."

Haydock ward councillor Martin Bond says he has raised the matter with the local authority has insisted businesses must do better to address the ongoing problem.

He said: "Businesses and their employees must do better. It's not acceptable to just leave your rubbish where you park.

"Take it with you and dispose of it properly. We have raised this again with the council department and with the businesses on the industrial estate. This simply cannot continue."

St Helens Council says work to clear the area is taking place and is looking to address the ongoing problem in the area.

Cllr Andy Bowden, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “We have had a number of reports of flytipping and littering in the area around Haydock Industrial Estate and we have a team working in the area to clean up where those thoughtless people have left their rubbish.

“The situation in this area is complex and we are currently working on options to address the issue of littering and flytipping for the long term.

"This will include working with businesses, both new to the area and well established who we have worked with before, to address this issue that residents are unfortunately having to live with.

“Flytipping generally is a huge issue here and across the borough, which is why we have launched our Think Twice campaign which aims to raise awareness of the impact this thoughtless act has on others, alongside other enforcement action we take against this issue.”

When asked about the matter by the Star, a spokesperson for Amazon said: “This does not reflect the high standards we have for our carrier partners and their drivers and we are continuing to progress further measures to address the matter.

"We have informed our carrier partners about the concerns raised and continue to reinforce this and remind them of the correct driver behaviour guidelines.

"We expect all of our carriers to comply with these guidelines.”
