THE family of a five-year-old boy in Great Ormond Street Hospital were shocked after receiving a letter from Liverpool Football Club manager Jurgen Klopp.
Jake Cathcart, from Moss Bank, was born in 2015 with a rare and undiagnosed heart condition, leading him to suffer two cardiac arrests and a respiratory arrest.
Since then he has become an inspiration for Team 1C, led by his parents and other parents who have children with cardiac issues at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, who have raised thousands to send surgeons abroad to help other children with heart defects.
Jake was doing very well, until November when he suffered heart failure and was rushed into Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and later taken by helicopter to Great Ormond Street Hospital to await surgery on his heart.
He is joined in London by his mum Claire and dad Neil, and separated from his one-year-old sister Daisy. The family have found it difficult being separated, made even worse due to the coronavirus restrictions.
So the LFC fans were elated after receiving a letter from Jurgen Klopp alongside a Liverpool Football Club teddy bear.
The letter said: “Firstly I hope you don’t mind me writing to you, I just want to let you know that everyone in the Liverpool family is supporting you right now. That is obviously a lot of people and there are times when I stop and think about how many people are supporting the players and myself it can blow my mind a little bit but the fact we all stick together is what makes this club really special. I hope that on this occasion they will not mind that I speak for them when I say that we are all with you. This isn’t just a saying either, it is something that really matters. When I hear my players talk about what helps them when times are tough, one of the things they all say is that the backing of the club and the supporters makes a real difference. The other thing that they say is that their own family matters more than anyone. I probably don’t need to say this to you, though, because I have been told that you have a brilliant family and friends around you and that they are doing everything they can to support you.”
Klopp ended the letter by writing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and signing it.
Jake’s mum Claire said: “It just arrived on ICU with Jurgen the bear. We couldn’t believe it, everyone wants a Jurgen hug and this is just like one. We are just amazed that he took the time to do it really, it’s getting framed.
“We don’t know who arranged this so if the person responsible is reading this, thank you so much”
