A WOMAN in her 60s has died after she was knocked down by a bus near Victoria Square this morning.
Emergency services were called at about 10.55am, to Bickerstaffe Street, St Helens to reports of a collision between a bus and a woman pedestrian in her 60s.
Her condition was described as serious, and she suffered injuries to her legs.
Police have now confirmed that she died in hospital.
Her next of kin have been made aware.
Road closures were in place on Cotham Street, Claughton Street, Bickerstaffe Street and Hardshaw Street.
Three road ambulance vehicles and an air ambulance were called.
An NWAS spokesperson said the woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
At least seven police vehicles were at the scene this afternoon, where an investigation is taking place.
A double-decker bus remained on Bickerstaffe Street, near to the Gamble Building and Century House.
A police spokesperson said: "Enquiries remain ongoing into the collision but the road closures have been lifted.
"Police are appealing for anyone who was in Bickerstaffe Street this morning who witnessed the collision to ring 0151 7775747 or DM @MerPolCC or @MerPolTraffic."
People are asked to avoid the area.
