A BURGLAR made off with cash and a mobile phone after being disturbed by a resident in a house.
The burglar had gained entry to a property on Campbell Street, Newtown through an unlocked back door on Monday night (August 10) at around 9.15pm.
An occupant disturbed the thief, after finding him in a bedroom in the home.
The burglar managed to make off after stealing cash and a mobile phone from the house.
Following the incident, police are urging people to ensure their homes are secure during the hot weather.

In a social media post published yesterday, St Helens Police said: "The hot weather is great but as usual there are those that take advantage of doors/windows not being locked.
"At 9.15pm last night a resident in Campbell Street disturbed a male in a bedroom, he managed to get away with cash and a mobile phone after he had got in through the unlocked back door.
"Not a nice experience. Stay safe."
