TRIBUTES have been paid to a “devoted father” and orthopaedic surgeon who has died at Whiston Hospital after contracting coronavirus.
Sadeq Elhowsh, a long-serving orthopaedic surgeon with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, died on Monday evening.
He had tested positive for COVID-19.
Sadeq, 58, from St Helens, dedicated more than 17 years to the trust during his NHS career.
He has been described as a loving husband and father to four sons, and was dearly loved by all of his close colleagues and well respected by his patients.
A tribute released by Sadeq’s family this afternoon said: “Sadeq was a wonderful husband, as well as a devoted father, and he dearly loved his family.
“We cannot put into words the depth of our loss.
“He loved his work and was dedicated to supporting his patients and his colleagues. As a family we are extremely appreciative for all the kind words and messages we have received.
“We would like to take this time to grieve in private.”
Ann Marr OBE, chief executive of St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Sadeq will be sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
“He was without doubt a much loved member of the team.
“All our thoughts are with Sadeq’s family and friends at this time and we offer them our sincere condolences.”
Following his passing, a GoFundMe page was set up by one of Sadeq’s colleagues, Ravi Gudena, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the trust.
The page has already raised more than £25,000.
Ravi said: “Nothing was ever too much trouble for Sadeq, he was always there to help anyone and was happy to do whatever was needed to help his colleagues and patients.”
A tribute on the GoFundMe page describes Sadeq as a “dear friend and colleague”.
“He is a true gentleman, loving father and husband,” the tribute says.
“He is a very valuable member of the Orthopaedic team at Whiston Hospital.
“He is always there to help anyone… and his famous quote is ‘don’t worry I will sort it’.
“He was well respected by all the patients, and dearly loved by all the staff, colleagues and juniors.”
The tribute added: “He left us before he can cherish the moments of seeing his son as medical graduate.
“We are raising funds to support his family and his son’s medical education.
“May his soul Rest in Peace. We will forever miss you Mr Elhowsh.”
