ST HELENS North MP Conor McGinn has been named in Labour Leader Keir Starmer’s frontbench team.
The new-look frontbench was announced today and sees Mr McGinn, a former whip, named shadow minister for security.
Mr McGinn, who was re-elected in December, will be joining the Home Office team under the new shadow home secretary, Nick Thomas-Symonds.

Following his appointment, Mr McGinn said: “It is an honour to have been appointed by Keir Starmer as Labour’s shadow security minister, with responsibility for areas like counter terrorism, serious and organised crime and online harms.
“The safety and security of the country and our citizens here in St Helens and right across the UK will always come first, and the incredible people working 24/7 to protect us will always have my and Labour’s support.”
The St Helens North MP will also be joined in the new-look Home Office team by Jess Phillips, who has been appointed as shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding.
Former Labour leader Ed Miliband has also returned to the Labour frontbench, serving as shadow business, energy and industrial secretary.
Keir Starmer has also appointed Angela Rayner as shadow first secretary of state.
She will also deputise for him at Prime Minister’s Questions and in other key functions.
“This is a new team that will take the Labour Party forward in a new era,” the Labour leader said.
“Under my leadership, the Labour Party will be utterly focused on working in the national interest, rebuilding people’s trust in our party and winning the next election.”
Party roles and parliamentary private secretaries will be appointed in due course.
